Dilemma about job selection

Career CounselingCategory: Career after GraduationDilemma about job selection

I am about to complete my engineering degree in electrical from an NIT. From the campus recruitment drive I have managed to get a offer as Business Analyst from a company with mediocre reputation, although the package offered is comparable to other Core companies.
I am quite confused which path should I choose, whether to work up revising my engineering topics for some PSU/Technical firm or to go towards the non-core field.
Frankly speaking I think myself as a guy with generalized knowledge among things rather than specialized.

Hi Shivam,
If you have the option of joining Core fields or PSU firms, I don’t think joining as a Business Analyst with mediocre reputation is a great idea. At this stage, you should go for jobs that enhance your skills and help you excel in a field of your interest.
To be fair, Business Analyst profile is a hot job and will be in demand in near future as well. However, I feel that at this stage you shouldn’t get carried away by a comparatively better salary. You should focus on capability development. At same time you may join the company and prepare for PSU exams (if you don’t have the offer). Do remember that you switching from generic profile to core technical profile is always difficult in future whereas you can switch from core to generic profile at any point in time in future.
Right now, you may not have the outstanding technical knowledge, however, you can develop the skills and knowledge. Currently you should prefer your passion/interest.
